Uses of "The" definite article (part II)

   ‘The’ is one of the most commonly used words in English Grammar. It is an only definite article. Specific nouns in English are preceded by the definite article. It is used when the speaker believes that the listener already knows what he is referring to. The speaker may believe for many different reasons which are mention below.

When to use "the"

 “The” is used when refers to something which has already been mentioned in the sentence.

     Example: On Sunday, a man stole Rs 1000 from a shop. The thief has been arrested. 

                     # here The thief refers to a person who is already mentioned in the first sentence.    

    Example: 'I was walking past cake shop when I decided to go into the bakery and buy some cake'. 

                    # here The bakery refers to a shop which is already mentioned in the first sentence.

    Example: There is a position available in my company. The job requires some great skills.

                    # here The job refers to a position in a company which is already mentioned in the first sentence.

When to use "the"

‘the’ is used in sentences or clauses where speaker identify a particular person or object.

Examples: The man who sang this song is famous.

                    # here The man is identified by the speaker as specific person.

Examples: I scratched the black car parked beside the road.

                    # here The black car is identified by the speaker as specific thing.

Examples: I live in the small house with decorated walls.

                    # here The small house is identified by the speaker as specific place. 

When to use "the"

“The” is used in the sentence to refer people or objects that are unique.

Examples: The sun rises in the east.

                   # here The refers to sun which is an unique object in the world and also a universal truth.

Examples: Around the world in a Dollar.

                    # here The refers to world which is an unique object.

Examples: The stars twinkle in night.

                  # here The refers to stars which is unique object in the world.

Examples: The president will preside audience on TV tonight.

                  # here The refers to president which is an unique people. 

When to use "the"

 ‘The’ is used with adjectives and refers to a whole group of people.

Examples: The Chinese enjoy noodles.

                    # here The refers to Chinese which is a whole group of people. 

Examples: The elderly require special attention.

                  # here The refers to elderly which is a whole group of people. 

Examples: Ratan Tata has given a lot of money to the poor. 

                  # here The refers to poor which is a whole group of people. 

When to use "the"

 ‘The’ is used with decades.

Examples: He was born in the eighties

                    # here The refers to eighties which is a decade.  

Examples: This is painting from the 1940’s.

                  # here The refers to 1940’s which is a decade.  

When to use “the”

 ‘The’ is used with clauses introduced by only

Examples: This is the only sunshine day in summer.

                    # here The is used before only which is a clause.  

Examples: You are the only person to listen. 

                  # here The is used before only which is a clause.    

Examples: The only coffee I like is black tea.  

                  # here The is used before only which is a clause.  

When to use “the”

 ‘The’ is used with countries that have plural names

Examples: I have visited the Netherlands.

                    # here The is used before Netherlands which is a plural name of a country.   

Examples: Do you live in the Philippines? 

                  # here The is used before Netherlands which is a plural name of a country.   

When to use “the”

‘The’ is used with countries that include the words "Republic", "Kingdom", or "States" in their names.

Examples: Arman lives in the United States.

                    # here The is used before United States.   

Examples: She is from the Republic of Ireland? 

                  # here The is used before Republic of Ireland.     

Examples: India is the Union of States. 

                  # here The is used before Union of States.      

When to use ‘The’

‘The’ is used with newspaper names.

Examples: I read it in the Times of India. 

                    # here The is used before Times of India which is a newspaper.   

Examples: She works for the Statesman.  

                  # here The is used before Statesman which is a newspaper.   

When to use “the”

The is used with the names of famous buildings, works of art, museums, or monuments.

Examples: Have you visited the Indian Museum.  

                    # here The is used before Indian Museum which is a building.     

Examples: We went to the Victoria Memorial and saw the palace.   

                  # here The is used before Victoria Memorial and palace which is are buildings.

Examples: I would like to visit the Qutub Minar.   

                    # here The is used before Qutub Minar which is a building.  

     The کا استعمال جملے میں کس طرح کریں: 

     The کا استعمال انگریزی قوائد میں سب سے زیادہ کیا جاتا ہے. The کا تعلّق حرف معرفہ سے  ہے. انگریزی میں مخصوص اسموں سے پہلے the کا استعمال کیا جاتا  ہے. اس کا استعمال متکلم اس وقت کرتا ہے جب مخاطب جملے میں حوالہ دیتے گۓشخص سے با خبر ہو. دیگر اصولوں کی بنیاد پر متکلم  the کا استعمال کرتا ہے. 

             the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

     the کا استعمال اس لفظ کے ساتھ  کیا جاتا ہے جس لفظ کا ذکر جملے میں پہلے ہی کیا جا چکا ہو. 

     
     Example: On Sunday, a man stole Rs 1000 from a shop. The thief has been arrested. 

        # یہاں the کا استعمال thief کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جس کا ذکر جملے میں پہلے ہی کیا جا چکا ہے.

         # یہاں the کا استعمال bakery کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جس کا ذکر جملے میں پہلے ہی کیا جا چکا ہے.           

    Example: There is a position available in my company. The job requires some great skills.

         # یہاں the کا استعمال job کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جس کا ذکر جملے میں پہلے ہی کیا جا چکا ہے.         

   

    the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

   the کا استعمال جملے میں اس سخص یا چیز کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے جس کا علم متکلم کو پہلے سے ہو.

Examples: The man who sang this song is famous.

        # جملے میں the کا استعمال man کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جس کا علم متکلم کو پہلے سے ہے.        

Examples: I scratched the black car parked beside the road.

        # جملے میں the کا استعمال black car کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جس کا علم متکلم کو پہلے سے ہے.

   the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

   the کا استعمال جملے میں اس سخص یا چیز کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے جو کہ دنیا میں نایاب یا انوکھا ہو.

Examples: The sun rises in the east.

           # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال sun کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ قائنات  میں انوکھا ہے.

    

Examples: Around the world in a Dollar.

            # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال World  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ دنیا میں انوکھا ہے.

     # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال Stars  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ قائنات میں انوکھا ہے.

Examples: The president will preside audience on TV tonight.

             # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال پریذیڈنٹ کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ دنیا میں انوکھا ہے. 

     

    the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-  

   the کا استعمال جملے میں صفت کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے جو کہ کسی لوگوں کی ایک جماعت کا ذکر کرتا ہو. 

Examples: The Chinese enjoy noodles.

               # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال Chinese  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ ایک قوم کا ذکر کرتا ہے.  

Examples: The elderly require special attention. 

  # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال Elderly  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ لوگوں کی ایک جماعت کا ذکر کرتا ہے.   

              

Examples: Ratan Tata has given a lot of money to the poor.  

  # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال Poor  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ ایک قوم کا ذکر کرتا ہے.   

                 

  the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

 The دہائی کے سال کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے. 

Examples: He was born in the eighties

              # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال eighties کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ سال کی دہائی کا ذکر کرتی ہے.

Examples: This is painting from the 1940’s.

         # اس جملے میں the کا استعمال 1940s کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ سال کی دہائی کا ذکر کرتی ہے.

    the  کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

   the کا استعمال جملے میں only کے ساتھ اور پہلے کیا جاتا ہے.

    Examples: This is the only sunshine day in summer.

# جملے میں the کا استعمال only کے ساتھ اور پہلے ہوا ہے.

                   

    Examples: You are the only person to listen. 

     # جملے میں the کا استعمال only کے ساتھ اور پہلے ہوا ہے.     

    Examples: The only coffee I like is black tea.  

       # جملے میں the کا استعمال only کے ساتھ اور پہلے ہوا ہے.   

the  کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

   the کا استعمال جملے میں متحد ملکوں کے نام سے پہلے کیا جاتا ہے. 

Examples: I have visited the Netherlands. 

# the کا استعمال Netherlands سے پہلے اور ساتھ میں کیا گیا ہے جوکہ ایک متحد ملک ہے. 

                     

Examples: Do you live in the Philippines? 

                # the کا استعمال Philippines سے پہلے اور ساتھ میں کیا گیا ہے جوکہ ایک متحد ملک ہے. 


 the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-
    the کا استعمال ان ملکوں کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے جن نام کے ساتھ Republic یا Union یا Republic یا states وغیرہ جڑا ہو. 
 

Examples: Arman lives in the United States of America . 

#  the کا استعمال United States of America کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے. 

      Examples: She is from the Republic of Ireland?  

     #  the کا استعمال Republic of America کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے.

      Examples: India is the Union of States. 

  #  the کا استعمال Union of States  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے.

  the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

 the کا استعمال جملے میں کسی اخبار کے نام کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے. 

Examples: I read it in the Times of India.  

# the کا استعمال Times of India کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ ایک اخبار ہے. 

 

    Examples: She works for the Statesman.  

       # the کا استعمال Statesman  کے ساتھ کیا گیا ہے جو کہ ایک اخبار ہے. 

  the کا استعمال جملے میں کب کریں:-

the کا استعمال کسی مشہور عمارت یا ساز یا عجائب گھر وغیرہ کے ساتھ کیا جاتا ہے.

Examples: Have you visited the Indian Museum.   

# the کا استعمال Indian Museum کے ساتھ کیا گیا جو کہ ایک عجائب گھر ہے.
